Our 5 Ways to Well-Being
Connecting… Working in small groups focusing on a task allows us to relax and talk openly, listening nonjudgementally and connecting with young people
Being active… Working around Bikes and working outside enables us to keep active. We engender a passion for cycling and for self-reliance enabling the young people to not only ride bikes, but keep them going independently so that they can rely on them as tools to help them stay active.
Taking notice… We encourage problem-solving and focus through being in the moment young people to feel and experience not only mindful riding, but also activities like wheel building and bike mechanics requires being present which helps us focus and manage how we feel
Keeping learning… The problem-solving aspects of bike mechanics allows young people who are struggling to engage with education to become passionate about learning again. Not only in obvious way: using maths, physics, reading instructions, Learning about different materials etc, but also learning about our environment, the seasons, the weather, becoming independent learners.
Giving… Fixing bikes for other people, teaching vulnerable people to ride bikes, giving bikes and time to groups of vulnerable people enables young people to feel linked and feel useful within the community.
Our skilled team provides top-notch bicycle repair services by young people learning by doing to ensure that every ride is safe and enjoyable for our community members. All work undertaken is checked and double checked by a bicycle mechanic with over 40 years experience.
Through mentoring and youth work programs, we empower young people to explore their potential and develop essential life skills.
We embrace neurodiversity in all our activities, creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued and supported. This comes with 30 years of teaching people with autism and ADHD.
Loved bikes and being outdoors since I was 2 years old, been finding freedom on my bike since then, first my back yrd, then my street, then the world... I have been working in the bike industry since the late 80s. Travelled the world with and on my bike getting up to allsorts and learning lots... I have lived with neurodiversity all of my life and this is central to how I work and interact with the world. Despite and because of this, I qualified as a mechanical engineer and I have worked with young people since I was even younger than they are!
